EIM Chemistry Impact Scoring using SciveraLENS®

Background

Jeanologia updated their overall environmental impact score in 2023 with revisions to all components of scoring. The Chemistry Impact Score was revised with the help of industry experts (including SciveraLENS) and brands in an effort to address greenwashing concerns and move the industry toward a more accurate disclosure and review of chemicals to address chemicals of concern and improve transparency and access to safer and more sustainable chemistries.

EIM’s V2 of the Chemistry Impact Score allows chemical suppliers to choose the level of disclosure and improve their chemical scores based on:

• The level of disclosure provided for each formulation
• The characteristics of the chemicals in each product formulation
• Additional certifications

Option 1 allows chemical suppliers to provide proof of ZDHC compliance as well as a SDS for each product they would like scored and listed in the EIM platform.

Option 2 (which is solely provided by Enhesa Sustainable Chemistry) allows chemical suppliers to improve their score by also including disclosure for 100% ingredients. This information is assessed using SciveraLENS’s Chemical Hazard Assessments and scored accordingly for listing in the EIM platform.

Option 3 gives suppliers the ability to use Screened Chemistry certification to achieve an EIM Chemistry Impact Score.

SciveraLENS is a cloud-based application that can help chemical suppliers with gathering the information needed for an EIM score, preview the assessment results for disclosed chemicals, and submit for scoring and listing in EIM.

Process

In order to apply for EIM Chemistry Impact Scoring, chemical suppliers may subscribe to the SciveraLENS platform. Using SciveraLENS, chemical suppliers will:

1. Securely gather chemical ingredient information
2. View assessment results in order to make safer chemical decisions
3. Forecast an EIM Chemistry Impact Score for their products
4. Submit for review and formal scoring from our team of Toxicologists
5. Have products listed in the EIM platform along with their Chemistry Impact Score to meet customer requirements and get additional product visibility

Enhesa Sustainable Chemistry’s toxicology team reviews each submission and generates a Chemistry Impact Score for delivery to the EIM software platform. Product scores need to be reviewed annually for renewal.

Based on the level of disclosure provided and the assessment results, your score will range from 0-100*:

Steps for Chemical Scoring for EIM with SciveraLENS

1. Sign up for a SciveraLENS subscription plan and purchase your EIM product package
2. Provide required chemical ingredient disclosure and certification details
3. Preview your EIM scores on the EIM Dashboard in SciveraLENS
4. Submit your product disclosure to our team via SciveraLENS for review and EIM scoring
5. SciveraLENS will provide the EIM score to you and Jeanologia for inclusion in the EIM platform and on SciveraLENS’s EIM registry
6. Scores need to be renewed annually (or at expiration of driving certificate)*

* If there are any changes to your formulation, you will need to resubmit for scoring.

Scoring Methodology

Chemical Suppliers can choose the level of disclosure they would like to provide for scoring. Based on the information provided and the scoring rules below, Scivera’s toxicology team will review and generate an EIM Chemistry Impact score for each chemical formulation.

Option 1 — Proof of Conformance (ZDHC MRSL Conformance + SDS) (minimum requirement to be listed in EIM)

• ZDHC MRSL Conformance v2.0 (or most current version) certification and a product-level SDS is the minimum requirement to list products in EIM. Any certification method that qualifies for ZDHC MRSL Conformance will be accepted.

Scoring is as follows:

• If no high hazard chemicals are identified, Product will be available for listing on EIM. Depending on the level of ZDHC conformance, scores will be:
  ○ ZDHC Level 1 – score of 66 (orange)
  ○ ZDHC Level 2 – score of 57 (orange)
  ○ ZDHC Level 3 – score of 47 (orange)
• If any chemicals of high concern are listed on the SDS (including hazard statments or H-codes H340, H350, H360, H362, H370, H372, H373, H400, H410, H420), the Product will be represented with a score of 100 (red).

To qualify for an EIM Chemistry Impact Score using Option 1, each SDS must pass basic quality and assessment review by Scivera’s Toxicology team (for example accuracy concerns, mismatched product or company names, or information disclosed).

Total possible points = 47-100

Users can pursue higher scores for EIM by providing additional disclosure for their products choosing either 100% ingredient disclosure or for additional possible points, Screened Chemistry certification (see options 2 and 3).

Option 2 – 100% Ingredient Disclosure and CHA

All chemicals provided under option 2 will go through a Chemical Hazard Assessment using Scivera’s GHS+ Hazard Assessment methodology to identify chemical scores based on the characteristics and impacts of those chemicals.

Option 2 disclosure requirements:

• ZDHC MRSL Conformance v2.0 (or most current version) certification and a product-level SDS is the minimum requirement to list products in EIM. Any certification method that qualifies for ZDHC MRSL Conformance will be accepted.
• In addition, we require 100% ingredient disclosure.
• This disclosure will result in a score of 28-100 based on the assessment of each ingredient.

Scoring Rules:

• If all verified and no reds and no grays
  ○ ZDHC level 1 = 38 (orange)
  ○ ZDHC level 2 = 33 (green)
  ○ ZDHC level 3 = 28 (green)
• If all verified and no reds
  ○ ZDHC level 1 = 47 (orange)
  ○ ZDHC level 2 = 42 (orange)
  ○ ZDHC level 3 = 38 (orange)
• If any unverified
  ○ Pay for CHA verification
  ○ Or choose Option 1 scoring
• If any verified HC red = 100 (red)

Total possible points = 28-100

Option 3 – Screened Chemistry Certification

Option 3 disclosure requirements:

● ZDHC MRSL Conformance v2.0 certification (or current version) and a product-level SDS is the minimum requirement to list products in EIM. Any certification method that qualifies for ZDHC MRSL Conformance will be accepted.
● In addition, we require a Screened Chemistry score and certificate. If applying for Screened Chemistry certification with Scivera, we will include a complimentary EIM score as part of the scoring and certification process.

Scoring Rules:
Screened Chemistry score review:

• If SC Preferred Formulation (35 to 50)
  o ZDHC level 1 = 9 (green)
  o ZDHC level 2 = 5 (green)
  o ZDHC level 3 = 0 (green)
• If SC Acceptable/Needs Improvement Formulation (20 to 34)
  o ZDHC level 1 = 38 (orange)
  o ZDHC level 2 = 33 (green)
  o ZDHC level 3 = 28 (green)

Total possible points = 0-38

If Screened Chemistry certification is not possible due to a phase out score, please use scoring rules under Option 1 or Option 2 – 100% disclosure.

Commodity Chemicals

Commodity chemicals are scored differently than textile chemical formulations as the evaluation and score is based on a single CAS RN. Scoring is based on Screened Chemistry scoring rules (https://www.scivera.com/certifications/scv3/). These scores are managed by Jeanologia.

Term

EIM Chemistry Impact Scores and corresponding certifications are valid for one year (or until expiration of driving certificate). Contact Scivera for pricing and more information.
